Ranger
Named for one of two small sloops, under the command of Lieutenant Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy, that figured prominently in the last, fight-to-the-death battle of the infamous pirate Blackbeard. The battle was waged Nov. 22, 1718, in Teach’s Hole channel near Ocracoke Village on the coast of what was then colonial North Carolina.
